What's Happening in dFab

You may know that Sequoyah’s dFab Hub is a creative maker space that popped up on the high school campus at the start of this year. You may be wondering, however, what is happening in the dFab Hub every day after school? If you find yourself asking this question, don’t worry, because the Barefoot Times has the inside scoop!

The head of the dFab Hub is Marin Vesely; check out a profile on her in this article by Wyatt Muncy ’25. Vesely really enjoys working in the dFab Hub because it allows her to see students try out new technology with which they make all sorts of neat things. Vesely also often runs workshops in the dFab Hub for teachers and students to help them learn how to use software and make amazing things. She says that it is “an interesting format to think about learning something in an hour and a half…you get a result… gain a skill from it but there isn't a continued class about it.” Vesely believes that it is an interesting challenge to take on.

One of the faces that you will see often in the dFab Hub is that of Mateo Rodriguez ’25. Rodriguez enjoys making 3D prints and stickers for him and his friends. He also runs the Sequoyah School Minecraft server that is connected to a computer in the dFab Hub. He states that “it was relatively easy to set up, but it can be annoying because people often come to me and say ‘Can you do this or do that or we don't want this plugin or that plugin anymore.’” Despite this, he has a lot of fun running this server. He is also personally trying to make full body tracking VR that can be connected to a cell phone. Rodriguez loves chilling and working on projects with other people before and after school.

Another familiar face is not the face of a student or a teacher, but a drawing that has been everywhere around the school lately. You may have even seen adaptations of this figure as various flags. This figure is known as Gerald, and he was created by  Adrian Arida  ’25. Arida feels satisfied with their creation and is glad that they impacted the school by creating such an iconic figure. Arida also began making stickers of Gerald with various pride flags, stating that they “might as well make it gay.” You can occasionally find Arida at the dFab Hub after school; if you do, they may give you a Gerald sticker!

On that note, please find time in your day to go visit the dFab Hub. It’s full of amazing people that would love to talk to you about any projects you would like to design and fabricate.
