Donut Reviews: Judging the Delicious, Textured, and Affordable
The Barefoot Times has created a comprehensive rating of the most popular donut shops around Pasadena and Temple City, evaluating their most popular donuts by the following five categories: taste, texture, cost efficiency, serving time, and overall appearance. For this article, The Barefoot Times reviewed three shops: Rose Donut, Krispy Kreme, and Donut King. Based on their donuts’ perfect texture and subtle sweetness, Rose Donut was the highest-rated donut shop.
Rose Donut
6276 N. Rosemead Blvd, Temple City, CA 91780
The Barefoot Times first visited Rose Donut, located in Temple City. The most popular donuts were, unsurprisingly, the glazed donuts; we ordered two glazed donuts and four glazed éclairs that cost a total of $8.10 (the little donut holes were complimentary). To say the least, this shop is generous with its portions. The serving time was about three minutes for all of the donuts, and the shop’s interior was rather cramped, with little to no area to sit. As for the donuts themselves, they tasted simply delicious—there was a perfect blend of chewiness and subtle sweetness from the glaze, totaling to a wonderful treat at any time of the day. The Barefoot Times would highly recommend this shop to any donut enjoyers, whether veterans or newcomers.

Krispy Kreme
710 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030
Next, The Barefoot Times visited Krispy Kreme, an age-old chain brand that was predicted to overtake Starbucks itself! (Alas, that never happened.) The most popular donuts were said to be both chocolate and glazed donuts, so The Barefoot Times ordered plenty of both! The total cost of all eight donuts was $12.54. The serving time came out to about five minutes. The shop’s interior, however, was relatively large, had several tables to relax at, and the atmosphere was very cozy. The donuts were certainly tasty, but both the sweetness and the texture seemed a little off. For one, the texture was too chewy, making every bite a semi-workout for the mouth. Additionally, the flavors (sugar and chocolate) were overdone and lacked subtlety.

Donut King
6913 N. Rosemead Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91775
Finally, The Barefoot Times visited Donut King, a personal recommendation from one of the reviewer’s friends. The most popular donuts were chocolate donuts, chocolate éclairs, and glazed éclairs. We ordered eight and the cost came to about $12. The serving time for all the donuts was about eight minutes, and the shop was quite crowded.
The donuts were very sweet and tasty, but sweetness was the only defining aspect of these donuts. The texture was nothing special, with the expected chewiness completely lacking. The actual donut size turned out to be smaller than the above image makes it appear. Additionally, The Barefoot Times could barely even taste the chocolate flavor! To conclude, the donuts weren’t horrible, but they definitely could have used less sugar and more chocolate flavor.
