Gingergrass Restaurant Review

Search No Further for Fresh and Tasty Vietnamese Food: A Review of Gingergrass

Gingergrass offers a variety of Vietnamese meats, vegetables, herbs, sauces, noodles, and sweets. Along with in-person dining at their two Los Angeles locations, Gingergrass can be ordered online through their website (and others such as DoorDash or Postmates). I decided to DoorDash my food, so prices may vary with in-person dining.

Gingergrass’s wok-tossed noodles are delicious and can be DoorDashed for $17.75 (or less, as I requested the addition of fresh vegetables). This dish includes egg noodles, bean sprouts, scallions, carrots, cabbage, egg peanuts, as well as veggies (the version in the photo), and the choice of shrimp, chicken, or beef. Note that these ingredients can be excluded in the case of dietary restrictions. The egg noodles are lightly coated in a smooth peanut sauce which nicely complements the sweetness of the cabbage. The bits of egg in this dish add flavor and contrast to the texture of the egg noodles. The noodles are strong on their own, but the toppings added to this dish bring them to the next level. One of the toppings is spicy pepper slices, so beware if you can’t handle spice! This dish was so tasty that I ordered it again the next day, along with a beverage included later in this article.

Another specialty of Gingergrass is their imperial rolls, a staple of Vietnamese cuisine; these are a must. Crispy imperial rolls are priced at $13.25 through DoorDash. These rolls can be ordered veggie, with crab and shrimp, or with chicken (I got veggie). These rolls hold true to their name and are indeed crispy. They are filled with ingredients of your choosing as well as lettuce, cucumber, pickled root vegetables, and various other herbs. The nuoc cham sauce (a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, lime, sugar, ginger, vinegar, and some other ingredients) that comes along with these rolls is not overwhelming, but flavorful enough to add a kick to the rolls. Crispy imperial rolls are a perfect, just-filling-enough snack that is worth a try!

A couple of desserts are offered at Gingergrass, a notable one being their banh mi bread pudding, which consists of french bread soaked in a vanilla coconut cream and filled with cinnamon and chocolate. The banh mi bread pudding costs $10.75 on DoorDash and makes a nice treat (or even breakfast)! The texture of this dessert is definitely denser than that of a standard chocolate pudding you might buy at the grocery store, but it is softened by the coconut cream and the airy bubbles of the bread. This dessert is fairly large and rich so it pairs well with a refreshing drink!

Finally, if you don’t order the watermelon-mint agua fresca, you are missing out. This drink is refreshing, flavorful, and a perfect combination of sweet and cool. It can be DoorDashed for $5.75 and is to die for! This watermelon-mint agua fresca would pair well with any dish and is also incredible on its own.

Visit Gingergrass in-person or online for some spectacular Vietnamese cuisine!
