Bakery Reviews: Which are the Most Delectable and Affordable?

I enjoy baking and baked goods, but I don’t know many good bakeries in the area. So, I visited multiple local bakeries with the hope of finding spots that are close to Sequoyah and good quality. On a scale of 1-10, I will be evaluating three local bakeries with four criteria in mind: overall vibe of the store, appearance, taste, and cost.

Ruby Bakery

5042 N Eagle Rock Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041

The first location is Ruby Bakery, which is a cute little bakery in Eagle Rock with all kinds of cakes and pastries. I had their most popular item, their strawberry cut cake ($3.50), which was super light and fluffy. The frosting tasted like whipped cream and was very smooth in texture. I also had a chocolate eclair ($3.50). The layer of dough in the chocolate eclair was a bit tough, but the custard-like filling tasted great and was creamy. It was also incredibly sweet, so I would only recommend it if that’s what you are looking for. An important detail is that Ruby Bakery only takes cash, but they do have an ATM in their store. Overall, Ruby Bakery was great and the employees were very kind.

Delight Pastry

39 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91103

The next bakery is Delight Pastry. Delight Pastry has cakes and desserts, but they also focus on intricate croissants and fancy tarts. This bakery is larger in size compared to the others and has plenty of tables and places to sit. I did not order from their drink menu, but Delight Pastry does have an extensive one. Also, it is important to note that this bakery is significantly more expensive than the others. Since Delight Pastry is known for its croissants, I got a chocolate croissant ($5.95) and their lemon tart ($7.50). The lemon tart’s cream topping not only added a flare in appearance, but it was also smooth and not too sweet. The lemon filling was incredibly flavorful and cooked evenly all the way through, which is very difficult to do when baking lemon tarts. There is not much to say about the crust as it is just like a pie crust, but it added great texture to the tart and was not over-baked. The chocolate croissant was amazing and had more layers than I could count. I personally thought there should have been more chocolate in the croissant, but I can say confidently that this is the best croissant I have ever had.

Eagle Rock Italian Bakery & Deli

1726 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041

The final bakery is Eagle Rock Italian Bakery & Deli, which not only has amazing cakes and pastries but also snacks, canned goods, and various baking and deli ingredients. The bakery is quite small and does not have any seating but the food makes up for that. Their most popular item was the rum cake ($3.50), and I also picked out a chocolate mousse cake ($3.50). The rum cake had amazing layers! From the bottom to the top, it was assembled with a thin layer of frosting, custard, crumbs, more cake, and frosting to top it off. The cake itself was a soft rum sponge cake with a thick buttercream frosting. The chocolate mousse cake had two layers of cake with frosting in between and a chocolate shell. The chocolate cake was a good mixture of soft and tough, and the frosting was smooth and tasted like chocolate mousse. The chocolate shell was not hard–it seemed more like untempered chocolate. Considering this, it was an amazing bakery with good quality food and more than just pastries.

Vibe of the store: 8/10

Cost: 9/10

Appearance: 8/10

Taste: 10/10

Overall Rating: 8.75/10

There are a ton of bakeries near Sequoyah, each with its own strengths. I urge you to visit whichever bakeries stand out to you, as it is worth it!
