Homework In Harmony: The Perfect After-School Homework Schedule

Welcome to the ultimate after-school homework strategy. Imagine waving goodbye to last-minute cram sessions and diving into a structured plan that boosts productivity and crushes assignments. Brace yourself for better grades, more 'me time,' and a smoother academic ride.

Meet Connie Zhao ’27, who's got the inside scoop on acing homework fast and crafting a smart after-school schedule. Zhao usually has dance and violin lessons after school, but still manages to be on top of all her assignments! Her secret? On the days she doesn't have after-school activities, she takes a few minutes to relax. “When I get home I make sure I get a small break, like getting a snack, watching a TV show, maybe taking a nap,” she notes. “That way I can have some time to relax. Then I’ll just try to get as much as I can done.” This mini-recharge primes her with the energy needed to tackle homework with full force.

In the realm of academics, ninth grade representative June Baehler ’27 is also a powerhouse. In the past year, she's undergone a remarkable transformation, completely reinventing her study habits in a way that's truly awe-inspiring. This incredible change began with her newfound commitment to taking exceptional notes in class, leading to a noticeable improvement in her academic performance. But there's another facet to her success story; when June arrives home from school, she also takes a 30 minute break to unwind before busting her homework out.  What sets Beahler apart however, is her unique approach to studying, adeptly spreading it out throughout the week, but with an added twist: she reserves the night before an exam for an intense last-minute review. Her unwavering dedication, meticulous note-taking, and well-structured study routines serve as a shining example to her peers, underscoring the immense value of these habits for achieving academic success.

Finally, Ila Rae Brookshire ’27 shared her view on homework productivity as well. When Brookshire gets home from school, she gets a quick snack before diving into the world of worksheets and essays. Brookshire emphasizes the significance of timing specific durations for homework or assignments, mirroring Beahler's suggestion. It's a great way to stay on track and be more productive. Another recommendation from Brookshire is to write down as much as you can: “Even if you think to yourself, ‘Oh this isn't important enough to write down’... later for the homework you might say ‘I don't know how to do this, it's not in my notes!’ So I think it's important to make sure you have as much as you can in your notes.”

Among these three students, it's clear effective note-taking and careful time management are crucial when dealing with homework. These strategies stand out as essential for boosting academic performance, both at Sequoyah and beyond.
